These ferns are epiphytic, which means they grow mounted on plaques or other substrates. Stag horn ferns make for tons of eye catching visual interest.

Soil
Though young ferns may be started in moist potting mix, staghorn ferns should be mounted once the progress towards maturity. To mount, you will need peat, and compost.

Fertilizer
Feed your stag horn fern monthly with a well balanced, water soluble fertilizer. This is best done during the spring and summer, when the fern is actively growing. Fertilize every other month during the fall and winter months.

Growth
Stag horn ferns can grow up to 4 plus feet in ideal conditions. That being said, most stay fairly small and compact.

Light
Dappled light is preferred, but can handle more sunlight if given enough water, warmth and humidity. Just be cautious about allowing any direct ray to hit the fronds, as they can burn easy.

Water
These ferns need frequent watering, but the base should be allowed to dry out in between. To water, soak your fern and mount until completely saturated and allow to drip dry before hanging . If you notice the fronds have begun to brown or blacken towards the base, it likely you plant is being overwatered. Likewise, if the tips of the fronds begin to brown or wilt, it probably needs to be watered more frequently.
